A certain amount of planning is required if you want a surprise party to be successful. Whether the party is for your partner, a special relative or friend, a solid plan is an essential part of the celebration. If a special someone has a birthday coming up and you want to surprise her, here are some tips to help you organise the best birthday party ever.
Are They a Good Candidate for a Surprise Party?
Not everyone is going to be enthralled with the idea of a surprise party. Before any further plans are made you need to be 100% certain that the guest of honour is going to appreciate what you’re planning. If she’s a social butterfly then there’s no question. However, for those a little on the shy side, a surprise might be something they dread.
As long as you’re certain your efforts are going to be appreciated, here are some steps you need to take.
Set a Date
Talk to a few co-conspirators about the birthday date and the days surrounding it and decide on a date for the celebration. Make sure the people you speak to can be trusted not to let any details of the party slip.
Ask for Help
You’ll have quite a mountain to climb if you try to organise it all by yourself. However, the risk of the surprise being spoiled increases the more people you involve. At the very least, get a couple of people’s help getting the birthday girl to the party.
Create a Story
This is possibly the most difficult part of organising a surprise party. How do you get them to the party location without them getting suspicious? If, for example, you’re thinking about the Park Lounge Bar, can you create an alternative event there for them to attend?
Select a Suitable Location
You’re going to have to get the birthday girl to this location so make sure you choose somewhere that fits in with your storyline. We’ve already mentioned the Park Lounge Bar, and this is a great spot from which to start any kind of birthday celebration. From there you can visit one of the many London nightclubs, take in a West End show or meet up with friends at a top London restaurant.
Send out Invitations
Invitations need to be sent out a few weeks in advance. Make sure recipients are aware that the party is a surprise and secrecy is vital. It’s also important that guests arrive at least half an hour before the guest of honour.
On the day of the party make sure all the other guests are out of sight when the guest of honour arrives. If you’ve carefully planned everything your surprise party is more likely to go without a hitch.
